Guest Post: Seeking the Ultimate Treasure

Here I grace your blog feed with a mini-article by my very own sister, Anna! I hope you enjoy!

“That their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in Whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:2-3)

The movie National Treasure is one of my all time favorites! It’s an adventurous story about a thrilling race to find the treasure. There are also some similarities in the movie that we can apply to the hunt for our ultimate Treasure.

First, Ben Gates’ ancestor was given a clue to a legendary treasure, which he passed down throughout his family. God has also given us guidance that we must pass down to our children and grandchildren. This guide is the inspired Word of God. We must train them to Love the Lord and His holy word (Proverbs 22:6; 2 Timothy 2:2). Second, after a long line of treasure hunters, Ben is determined to find the treasure even when his family had given up hope. When we become Christians, we devote our lives to seeking the Lord with our entire being (Matthew 6:33). The world no longer has dominion over us because we know that our treasure is waiting for us in Heaven (Matthew 5:12). As Psalm 42:1 says, “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.” Finally, when Ben had discovered the treasure, he didn’t hesitate to share it with the world. We as Christians must boldly proclaim that Jesus is the Way to the ultimate treasure (John 14:2). As we seek to share the Gospel with the world, let us continue to press on toward our goal ~ the ultimate treasure in Heaven.
